Heads of State of European nations, Russia, People’s Republic of China, Canada, and Japan Cc: news media around the world The Honorable President of the United States, George W. Bush, Heads of State of European nations, Russia, People’s Republic of China, Canada, and Japan, President Bush, in his State of the Union address delivered to the United States Congress, declared the Iranian government as dangerous and part of an “axis of evil”. Even though by characterizing the Islamic Republic as reactionary, dictatorial and terroristic, Mr. Bush confirms the opinions of the majority of the Iranian people, and that of Iranian opposition groups, he has not made it clear to us what methods and policies he has planned for confronting the Iranian regime. At this juncture, we feel that it is necessary for us to bring to your attention our own viewpoint, and that of the freethinking Iranian people, in order to prevent another social and historical travesty, and preclude world leaders from making another political error regarding Iran. The people, and the democratic opposition groups of Iran, oppose any kind of foreign military assault against their country, and believe that the democratic forces of the world can play an effective role in the overthrow of the current dictatorial and terrorist regime of Iran, only by aiding and supporting the democratic movement of the Iranian people, and supporting their democratic rights. We do not want Iran to be turned into ruins as a result of war, and are not willing to have the Iranian people killed only to oppose the regime. It is our opinion that any kind of military attack against Iran will cause the regime to unify segments of the society and opposition with itself, or simply to silence them, which ultimately will only lead to further strengthening of the regime. Also, in the event of a foreign military attack, a significant portion of the people and democratic forces will have to fight on two fronts: against the dictatorial and terrorist regime, and against the foreign invaders. We also believe that any type of military attack against Iran will cause further chaos, turmoil, and insecurity in the Middle East. The people and democratic opposition of Iran are prepared to rise up and overthrow the Islamic Republic regime, and to install their own elected government, but warn that they are not willing to accept another puppet regime to be imposed on them, as was done by the United States and Great Britain in the coup d’etat of 1953! The people and democratic opposition of Iran are themselves victims of dictatorship and terrorism, and ensure the leaders of the world’s nations that they will continue to fight against all terrorists and their supporters, and invite the democratic forces of the world to aid them in this path.
